Wilford Court was originally a local Pitch & Putt course of two acres servicing a local need for the Community. The developer’s brief to the Architect was to design contemporary apartment blocks with a mixture of traditional duplex units and one, two and three bedroom apartments.
The site is a rectangular shaped site of two acres with an L shaped entrance road. The apartments are built in two blocks with a large and generous proportion of private open space between each block. Originally the site had planning permission for 37 apartments and 90 basement car parking spaces.
With some imaginative design and the use of space, without dramatically increasing the overall height of the proposal, we achieve a total of 53 one and two bed apartments in two blocks, including six three bed duplex units and six one bed ground floor apartments – a total of 65 units. The contemporary terrace design of the two blocks in parallel has dual aspect, which takes full advantage of mountain views and surrounding countryside.
Each block has one central lift which services a central core and the three penthouses. The basement car parking reserves the spectacle of off-street parking, giving the complex a pedestrian outlook.
The third phase is in the shape of a large rectangular block at right angles to Phases 1 & 2 and is built in traditional form and clad in buff clay tumbled bricks with timber bay windows and vertical panels of brickwork, which will age gracefully. The modernly designed penthouses with ample terraces take full advantage of the views of the nearby fields and mountains.
